7 HACKS YOU NEED TO KNOW

13 Aug 2015 By

You have a great bottle of wine but no corkscrew? We’ve got 7 hacks for you. You’re welcome.

Use Different Kinds of Screws

Almost anywhere you are, you are able to find some kind of screw. This is how you use it: If you have a picture hook, just screw it into the cork and wiggle that cork out. A normal screw and pliers or a hammer will work as well.

Use a String

Poke a hole in the cork with a sharp object. Tie a knot at one end of a string and feed it all the way through the hole in the cork. You will need the sharp object you used to poke a hole in the cork to help you feed the string through. When the knot is all the way through, remove the sharp object and pull the the string until the cork is out.

Use Your Shoe

Take off your shoe and put the wine bottle in it. The bottom of the bottle should now be placed where your heel is supposed to be. Bang your shoe attached wine bottle into something hard, like a wall. The cork will eventually pop out. Be careful, you don’t want to break it. This also work if you wrap a towel around it and bang it against a wall.

Use Your Key

Push a key firmly into the edge of the cork at a 45 degree angle. When you have got more than two-thirds of the key in the cork, twist it around while you gently pull at the same time.

Use a Serrated Knife

Carefully push a serrated knife through the cork. It needs to be serrated so the blade can grab onto the cork for the next step: When you have pushed the knife through the cork, twist the blade until the cork is out.

Use a Bike Pump

Following Tour de France throughout the French countryside on a bike and looking forward to enjoying a bottle of Bordeaux in the evening? Suddenly you realize you didn’t bring your corkscrew, but you probably brought your bike pump. Poke a hole in the cork with a sharp object. Feed the needle from the bike pump. Start pumping and your cork will be out in no time from the pressure of the pump.

Use Heated Tongs

If you have got a really old wine and the cork is likely to crumble, using a tong is a possible solution. Heat up the tong, place it around the bottle neck, just below the cork and leave it there for 10 seconds. Rub some cold water onto the neck (with a brush to avoid getting burned). Then break off the top part of the bottle neck using a towel and your hands. At last, pour the wine through a funnel to avoid having broken glass in your wine. Voilá!
