TRAVEL: INTERCONTINENTAL BALI RESORT
26 Sep 2025 By David Fuhrmann-Lim
Some Places Chase Trends, While Some Places Are Destinations in Themselves – Resorts So Deeply Embedded Into The Psyche of Their Location That They Define It. The InterContinental Bali Resort is Unequivocally The Latter.
Standing with regal poise along a pristine 500-metre stretch of Jimbaran’s famed white-sand beach, this is not merely a hotel; it is a foundational pillar of Balinese luxury, a sprawling sanctuary that has mastered the art of timeless elegance since it first opened its doors in 1993. But within this grand estate lies an even more refined world, an exclusive “resort-within-a-resort” that elevates a stay from luxurious to extraordinary: Club InterContinental. And we are so here for that.
To arrive at the InterContinental Bali is to step into a world where grandeur and serenity coexist in perfect harmony. The moment you enter the vast, open-air lobby, the outside world dissolves, replaced by the scent of frangipani and the soothing sounds of water trickling through stone-carved statues.

The architecture is a masterwork of classic Balinese design – majestic pavilions and serene waterways meandering through 14 hectares of lush tropical gardens.
This is the grand, romantic vision of the island. But for a Club guest, this magnificent lobby is merely a gateway. We were graciously escorted away from the main check-in desks to a private, secluded enclave for our check-in – this is where the Club InterContinental experience truly begins.

The private check-in takes place in the cool, tranquil elegance of the Club InterContinental Lounge, a sophisticated retreat that becomes the heart of your stay.
Here, there is no waiting, only a comfortable seat, a chilled towel, and a welcome drink while the formalities are handled discreetly. It’s an immediate immersion into a world of personalised attention before heading to your suite.
[Fun Fact: There’s daily complimentary high tea offered in here, with pastries, scones and sandwiches, which we were compelled to indulge in before heading to the room.]

My Club InterContinental Suite was a haven of sophisticated comfort.
The expansive room, starting at a generous 49 square meters, felt both classic and fresh, with rich teak woodwork, plush textiles, and a private balcony offering a sublime view over the landscaped gardens. This connection to the outdoors feels essential here; the sense that your private space extends into the verdant nature just beyond.
Days began with a question of where we would have breakfast. So we split it: one day from the extensive international buffet at Taman Gita, and the next (our preferred choice tbh) was the serene exclusivity of the Club Lounge itself, with an exquisite à la carte menu in peaceful, elegant surroundings.

The main pool boasts a bustling energy, with its stunning infinity edge that seems to melt into the azure waters of Jimbaran Bay.
Of course, the full splendour of the resort remains at one’s disposal. Our days here at the InterContinental would unfold with an unhurried grace. With six pools in total, you can tailor your aquatic escape to your mood. And there’s the ocean itself, just a sniff of salted air away from the main pool. The soul of Jimbaran is its connection to the sea, best experienced at the resort’s Sunset Beach Bar & Grill. As the afternoon wanes, there is no better place to be than on a plush daybed, watching the sky ignite in fiery hues as the sun dips below the horizon, a moment of pure Bali magic.

The Club Pool is smaller yet all the better for it.
And yet we went instead to, you’ve guessed it, the exclusive Club Pool, which offered sanctuary. Shielded by lush foliage, this serene pool is a world away from the gentle bustle of the resort’s main swimming areas, offering a level of tranquillity reserved solely for Club guests, with attentive staff on hand to provide chilled towels and refreshments. Yeah, fresh coconut and fruit juices at your bidding, and a members-only pool at your beck and call — it’s the perfect way to unwind.
Evening approached, and we made our way to the Lounge – we just can’t quit the Lounge! – for a sophisticated cocktail hour. Expertly mixed drinks and fine wines are served alongside a rotating selection of hot and cold canapés, each a perfect, flavourful bite. This ritual, set against the backdrop of the setting sun, became the ideal prelude to our evenings.

For dinner, we were drawn to the secluded KO Restaurant for its famed teppanyaki.
Tucked away within a serene Japanese garden, its labyrinth and languid passages did not prepare us for the drama that would follow. Our chef was a master of his craft, and this was not just theatre; it was precision cooking of the highest order. With a flick of his wrist, knives danced, salt and pepper shakers flew through the air, and flames erupted from an onion volcano, much to the delight of everyone at the table. Plump scallops, a succulent lobster tail, and a beautifully marbled slab of Wagyu beef were cooked to perfection before our eyes. It’s an interactive and utterly unforgettable culinary journey.

Each course was a testament to KO’s philosophy: authentic in its respect for ingredients, yet contemporary in its execution and presentation, solidifying its status as a must-visit dining destination on the island.
To stay at this resort is to experience a legacy. But to stay at Club InterContinental is to experience that legacy perfected – a resort within a resort, if you will. It is a property that exudes a quiet confidence, born from decades of mastering the art of hospitality. It doesn’t need to shout its credentials; they are evident in the immaculate gardens, the genuine warmth of the staff, and the unwavering commitment to creating an experience where every desire is met and exceeded. In the heart of Jimbaran, the Grande Dame doesn’t just rest on her laurels; she has redefined them.
