FIRE WALK WITH ME

18 Apr 2017 By

Johnny Walker Green Label is back after a five year absence. So what’s different now?

Johnny Walker Green Label walked away at the height of its success, and now, five years later, it’s back by popular demand. For whatever reason, it was gently shelved aside to make way for Gold Label Reserve and Platinum Label, and discontinued worldwide except for… we’re looking at you, Taiwan. But we’re glad it’s back, because it’s pretty much our favourite label in the range.

Why? Because it is a blend of only malt whiskies, crafted from a selection of Speyside, Highland, Lowland and Island malts (represented by Talisker, Linkwood, Cragganmore and Caol Ila), so you get all the character of a single malt whisky, but with a more nuanced depth and notable flavour experience – the malts been matured for a minimum of 15 years.

“Johnnie Walker Green Label is an extraordinary whisky that stems from the exceptional craftsmanship of our blenders and their skill in selecting and blending malt whiskies to deliver a rich, balanced blend and multi-dimensional flavour profile,” shared David White, Director & General Manager, Moet Hennessy Diageo.

You can be a snob about blended whiskies, but it takes real art and science to make a blend, to create a product that’s consistent from batch to batch. And we had our own shot at it inside the interactive Blender’s Room.

We were provided the same four types of whiskies from the regions, to mix and match different malt and grain whiskies as we liked (not to replicate the Green Label’s flavours). Obviously we went with a smoky profile.

So there you have it: #GreenLabelisBack

And since Trainspotting is back as well, here’s Robert Carlyle with the history of Johnny Walker, in under six minutes.

Johnny Walker Green Label is available in Singapore (S$101) at selected retail and e-commerce outlets.
