FRENCH RESOLUTION

29 Sep 2015 By

Naz from Bitter & Love walked us through a Remy Martin session, and taught us how to make cognac cocktails. Impressionnant! So it’s a bit tricoleur, and a lesson in three cocktails.

In Naz Arjuna’s own words:

The intent of the workshop “…was to showcase the versatility of the Rémy Martin spirit. Cognac is not a commonly used spirit in cocktails and is not a preferred choice behind the bar in recent times.”

How to blend a French spirit with local ingredients “…I played with ramble cocktails from gin to cognac to show that cognac has the aroma and flavours that can substitute gin. Keeping to the Bitters & Love way, I’ve localized cognac with the use of ingredients like kaffe lime and grapes. Using fresh fruits with cognac cocktails is not something, which is commonly done as most people are afraid to experiment. What most don’t know is that cognac has some floral elements to it, which allow for such combination of flavors.”

Oldie but goodie “…Cognac can be mixed with a lot of other spirits and liquers such as Cointreau – just ‘cos it’s old, doesn’t mean it has to be boring! This session was a good challenge for me and I hope that whoever attended it managed to gain a deeper understanding of the versatility of Rémy Martin and appreciate the forgotten spirit of Cognac.”
