For Those Still Yearning For A Taste of Travel, Chef Carles Abellán Brings Us The Best Spain Has To Offer

Get a taste of Spain without leaving the country with authentic Barcelonian tapas and exclusive wines at Robertson Quay’s Tapas, 24. The famous tapas bar’s first Asian outpost has a very special guest in town – renowned chef and owner of Barcelona’s Tapas,24 in Carles Abellán, protégé of El Bulli’s Ferran Adrià.

Chef Carles has been long awaiting the visit to Singapore since the restaurant first launched in May 2021, but travel restrictions had pushed it back for almost a year. To celebrate his much-anticipated arrival, diners will get the special opportunity to order one-off items from a specially curated menu  for a very limited time – some of which are made from special ingredients personally hand-carried by Chef himself!

It’s a carte of exclusive ‘Carles Abellán Specials’  that’s only available from 17 to 27 February 2022 and 3-day only set menus from 25 to 27 February. A beautiful showcase of Spain’s native flavours presented in his signature avant-garde style, elevating the familiar to new and exciting realms. We loved the King Crab Ensaladilla Rusa, an opulent update on his award-winning Russian potato salad, with heapings of fresh king crab, miso mayo and tobiko – not the first flavours you’d expect when you think Spanish, but it works!

Head Sommelier Guillaume Pace of L’Angélus Group, which owns Tapas,24 Singapore, paired it with a Adega Pombal a Lanzada Arcan Albariño, an uncommon varietal with a crisp minerality and stone-fruit sweetness that complemented the delicate seafood perfectly. This pairing is highly recommended.

Loyal fans of Tapas,24 will be ecstatic that the wildly popular McFoie Burger is finally available in Singapore. The deceptively-simple looking sandwich is a tender juicy foie patty nestled between two rich brioche buns, served with a luxurious dollop of foie gras mousse. The Javier Sans’s V Malcorta Verdejo, made from a rare native grape, is a white wine, an unexpected yet inspired choice that marries beautifully with the luscious, meaty burger.

Make sure you end off with Carles Abellán’s chocolate cake. We’re not really dessert people, to be honest, and yet! It’s a just-decadent-enough 70% Belgium chocolate cake topped with toasted salted kikos (a classic Spanish childhood snack) hand-carried all the way here by Chef Carles.
