Local Beermeister Brewlander Brings All The Brews to Singapore’s Largest Craft Beer Festival

This one’s for the craft beer connoisseurs. Singapore’s own Brewlander is taking our love for indie brews to the next level with a monster of a craft beer festival. From 3 to 6 August (that’s 4 whole days!), over 100 unique beers from more than 20 local and international breweries including Norway’s Lervig, Hong Kong’s Heroes, Australia’s Rocky Ridge and Cheeky Monkey, and Vietnam’s Heart of Darkness and Pasteur Street Brewing Co. will descend upon Bayfront Event Space. And repping Singapore along with the organisers themselves are local faves Alive Brewing, Sunbird Brewing Company and more.

And don’t forget the first-time-here breweries like UK’s Cloudwater, US’s Trillium Brewing and Japan’s DD4D. DD4D’s ‘Captain’ & CEO Keita Yamanouchi and ‘Commander’ & Headbrewer Mike Donohue can’t wait for festival-goers to sample the limited edition Don Jalapeño, a West Coast IPA “that’s dryhopped with Cascade and Centennial, conditioned on local Jalapeño, adding a very moderate spiciness.” They added, “John from Brewlander tried our beers at the Keyaki Beer Festival in Japan in May, and as far as we remember (we were drunk), he liked our beers very much and he invited us to the Brewlanza Fest on the spot. We’ve not been to Singapore before, but have heard many great things about it, and thought it was be exciting to take part in a festival like Brewnanza and share our beers with people in Southeast Asia.”

That’s just 1 of the 6 limited ed. creations that’ll be at the fest. Brewlander themselves are bringing Alison, I’ll Drink Your Wine (a pillowy NEIPA with juicy, tropical fruit notes) and 58 Shades of Red (a patriotic red IPA that’s malty, citrusy, piney, hoppy), as well as collab brews Sourpocalypse with Scotland’s Vault City Brewing Co. (smoothie sour inspired by mango pomelo) and Ridgelander IPA with Rocky Ridge (crisp, bitter West Coast IPA).

Also intriguing be the Lock Cha Beer by Heroes. It’s a ‘Pu’er English Strong Ale’ with notes of Zheng Shan Pu’er tea, toast and toffee – how very HK. The Heroes themselves (Swallow Chi aka Birdie “our in-house Karaoke auto-tune!, brewing director Chris Wong ‘and beer dumpster!’ & co-founder Angus Ip) enthused, “When we first met John (way before we started our brewery), we saw the words ‘beer community’ tattooed on his forehead. So coming to Brewnanza was a no brainer. We’re very excited to come hangout with the beer community in Singapore. We’re looking forward to collaborate with our first ‘outside of Hong Kong’ heroes (or villains)! We did a collab while John was in Hong Kong. While the beer is going well and it tastes amazing, we decided to take it slow and save it for Brewnanza 2024 so you guys can wait for it.” Tease.

Psst, meet your Heroes early when they take over the taps at our friends’ Smith Street Taps tonight.

Founder & yeast whisperer John Wei himself has this to add, “We’re thrilled to have so many friends from the craft brewing scene joining us at the first Brewnanza Fest, from established local players like Brewerkz to rising stars like Alive Brewing and Sunbird Brewing Company. Not forgetting as well, Trillium Brewing from the USA, DD4D from Japan, who are both here in Singapore for the very first time, as well as our long time friends Young Master Brewery and Heroes from Hong Kong, Heart of Darkness from Vietnam, and The Brewing Project and Samata from Thailand. Whether you’re a long time fan or new to craft beers, Brewnanza Fest is an excellent opportunity for everyone to explore, learn and enjoy all these fantastic craft brews alongside delicious food and upbeat tunes curated by homegrown music collective Ice Cream Sundays and some of my favourite bands in the local music circuit.”

We can’t wait!
