BOWMORE X ASTON MARTIN EXPERIENCE
16 Jan 2022 By David Fuhrmann-Lim
The Next Best Thing to Travel… is Travel Retail, As You Get Access to Bowmore’s New Designed by Aston Martin Limited-Edition Collections.
The existing Bowmore 10, 15 and 18-Year-Old single malts travel retail range (read: Duty Free Liquor) has been giving a new look by the design team at Aston Martin — designs which pay homage to iconic cars from Aston Martin’s prestigious heritage.
This Designed by Aston Martin collection is the first multi-product offering from Bowmore’s unique collaboration with Aston Martin. So let’s vroom right in.
Bowmore 10 Years Old is paired with the game-changing Aston Martin LM10.
ABV 40%. SGD$70.
A combination of hogshead ad sherry cask, this is lightly peated, and has notes of sultanas, sea salt, woody leather, lemon citrus and dark fruit oils. A good gateway intro to the range, and a worthy cocktail for those Old Fashioneds you love.
Bowmore 15 Years Old takes inspiration from the beautifully-refined Aston Martin Atom.
ABV 43%. SGD$90.
The best value of the lot, if you judge by taste, looks, taste, nose and taste: it is elegant and has flavours of silky citrus, salty-sweet vanilla, dried fruits and honeycomb.
Bowmore 18 Years Old is united with the Aston Martin DB Mk III .
ABV 43%. SGD$136.
This is a bit overpowering if you like your sherry casks and cigars in the study. Notes of bitter-sweet orange peel and peat-smoke roasted coffee.
Fun Fact! Bowmore is the oldest distillery of its kind on Islay (founded in 1779).
And then there’s this:
The first launch of the Black Bowmore DB5 1964, one of the rarest single malt whiskies ever created, offered in a handcrafted bottle incorporating a genuine Aston Martin DB5 piston. There are only 25 bottles available for sale worldwide, and one bottle of Black Bowmore DB5 1964 has been allocated for sale in Singapore – at the Lotte Duty Free Changi Airport Store. A silent auction for this bottle will take place from now to 30 Jan 2022 via www.lotteluxurywhiskyauction.sg at a reserve price of SGD$90,000.
Fun Fact! 1964 is arguably one of the most significant points in Bowmore’s 240-year history. The arrival of a new boiler saw the distillery enter the modern age of distilling as coal fires made way for steam in heating the stills. It was the first distillation from this new boiler that produced the spirit which was to become the iconic Black Bowmore. 1964 is also the year Goldfinger was unleashed upon the world and the year the Aston Martin DB5 made its debut.
So get your auction paddles out and er, good luck.
From now till early February 2022, travellers can purchase this limited edition collection at Bowmore’s first pop-up store at Terminal 3 Departure Transit Hall, Singapore Changi Airport, as well as on iShopChangi, Changi Airport’s e-shopping portal.
- The pop-up store will also showcase the Black Bowmore DB5 1964, the Aston Martin collection as well as other exclusive products to travel retail, such as the Limited Edition Design for Lunar New Year and a 25 Years Old Single Cask Limited Edition, available exclusively at Changi Airport.
