RUINART + ART
11 Jan 2016 By David Fuhrmann-Lim
Ruinart Champagne celebrates its partnership with Art Stage Singapore 2016 by showcasing new limited edition of Blanc de Blancs, and an installation crafted by French artist and scenographer, Hubert Le Gall. It’s art… in a bottle!
French artist Hubert Le Gall tells a story of Ruinart, the oldest champagne house, a story that has its origins in the vineyards of Champagne. In the Sillery vineyards, he discovered chardonnay, the grape variety that symbolises the house and its iconic cuvee, Blanc de Blancs.
Hubert pays tribute to the passage of time, marked by the rhythm of the seasons and the work of man, through this series of 12 sculptures that each represents a month of the year. The vine becomes a symbol around which the seasons flow at a constant rate, bringing the transformations needed for the birth of champagne. (If you’re asking yourself “What is Art for?” Then watch this illuminating animation by Alain de Botton).
This collaboration – an extraordinary experience for Hubert (above) – provided him with the opportunity to work with a new material. The beauty of glass is derived from its imperfections, roughness and air bubbles. It is a material which reflects the Chardonnay, offering ideal transparency, with the play of light and numerous possibilities to explore a wide range of colours. Hubert wanted to create a colourful, joyful, bright and lively work to reflect the champagne revealing its elegance through its colour, luminosity and effervescence. Watch video here.
You can view the art work at Art Stage Singapore 2016 from 21-24 January. The limited edition Ruinart Blanc de Blancs by Hubert Le Gall (S$160, excluding GST for a 75cl bottle) is available only at Crystal Wines and Chateau Asia, from January 2016. Limited to 25 pieces in Singapore.
