COINTREAU TOWERS
12 Oct 2014 By David Fuhrmann-Lim
We went to the French brand’s La Maison Cointreau series of collaboration parties, which hooks up guest bartenders to cool bars to create unique, one-off cocktails for the night. The first was in Tess Bar & Kitchen. You should go to session two.
A slight departure from the usual media-only soirees, this shindig also allowed paying consumers to experience the versatility of Cointreau’s orange spirit.
The party was inspired by designer collaborations in the fashion scene, and thus “A Night of Cocktail & Food Pairing” presented by La Maison Cointreau x TESS Bar & Kitchen launched. The two guest bartenders – Mike Cheong of WooBar at W Singapore (La Maison Cointreau Singapore 2013’s first-ever champion), and Alex Tan of Manor (A Bar Above) – created cocktails to pair with amuse-bouche specially created by Tess’ head Chef Martin Wong, alumnus of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon.
Mike Cheong (WooBar, W Singapore)
Midsummer’s Eve
Botanist Gin, Cointreau, muddled cucumbers, pink guava juice, fresh lime juice, homemade hibiscus and rose syrup.
Paired with Pulled Duck Leg Confit Crostini.
La Boheme
Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum, Cointreau, homemade vanilla syrup, Forbidden Forest Lapsang Souchong Tea, fresh lime juice.
Paired with Braised Duroc Pork Cheek.

Alex Tan (Manor – A Bar Above)
French Kiss
Botanist Gin, Cointreau, fresh mint leaves, fresh strawberries, fresh lime juice, Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur.
Paired with Pan-seared Scallop Skewers.
Sweet Passion
Bruichladdich Scottish Barley, Cointreau, fresh basil, fresh passion fruit, lemon juice, sugar syrup, egg white.
Paired with Steamed foie gras custard.
Over 120 punters were happy to pay $23++ for a pairing, a steal when you think about it. What did we like? The Sweet Passion and La Boheme. The special cocktails won’t be available in Tess, but if you see the bartender in their home turf, maybe you could persuade them to concoct one for you. Hence – score an entry to session two (see below).
La Maison Cointreau Collaboration Line-up
Each party will be hosted at a different location, and are specially planned to blend the spirit of La Maison Cointreau with the core essence of each highly-acclaimed establishment. Two guest mixologists from the 2013 La Maison Cointreau alumni will helm the bar of each party with two limited edition concoctions each, exclusively available on that night.
The line-up of the next three parties:
