MUSIC + COGNAC
06 May 2022 By David Fuhrmann-Lim
Singapore Musicians + Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal Cognac is a Potent Blend We Can Definitely Get Behind.
There’s much to celebrate here: it’s the 100th anniversary of the Sidecar (recipes below); it’s the launch of the house’s latest cognac, the Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal; the brand is partnering with a selection of Singapore’s best bars to offer classic and special signature renditions of the Sidecar; and it has teamed up with local up-and-coming musicians to highlight the strong cultural connection between Cognac and music in Singapore.
The seductive Sidecar cocktail is easy to drink but not so easy to get right (trust us, we’ve tried); you have to use the right cognac otherwise it will all go a bit Pete Tong. The Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal hits the right notes as it is citrusy, acidic, spicy, tart and rich. You can experience various interpretations of the Sidecar at the city’s best bars including MO BAR, Smoke & Mirrors, Stay Gold Flamingo, Studio 1939 and Tippling Club.
Rémy Martin also sets the stage for four up-and-coming Singaporean musicians in its new film, “A Toast To Ambition” — watch it here. The film stars promising SG talents AFROJUNIOR, Axel Brizzy, Esta C and Louie Indigo, and it captures the ambitions of a new generation pushing boundaries and pursuing excellence in their artistic expression in the theme of #TeamUpForExcellence.
As part of the collaboration, check out Singapore Tastemakers, a playlist that highlights local musicians who embrace the journey to reach new heights, rise above the noise, and write their narrative into music that is meant to be savoured, just like your favourite cognac. (A bit more about Remy Martin’s history from our Spirited Singapore friends here.)
Sidecar recipe:
Rémy Martin recommends three parts Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal, two parts Cointreau and one part lemon juice.
Parched concurs, but you can also add another dimension with spices like cinnamon, piri piri or peppers. Don’t forget your garnish: a flamed orange zest coin. Voila, down in one.
Royal Tom Collins recipe:
Cognac 45ml
Lemon juice 22ml
Simple syrup 22ml
Top with soda water into a Collins glass.
The rich and robust Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal is available for purchase on Amazon for cocktail enthusiasts to freely create their own interpretation of classic cocktails at home.
