YAO MING AT 0.75l

12 Sep 2014 By

Celebrities, celebrities – some tall, some short, some more full bodied, and some more profitable than others.

We came, and we saw:

Yao Ming, Cabernet Sauvignon – made with Napa Valley grapes fermented using artisan winemaking techniques and aged up to 18 months in 100 percent French oak barrels.

We grimaced, we gossiped, we procrastinated, and finally, we tasted.

As Robert Parker wrote in The Wine Advocate  “I am aware of all the arguments that major celebrities lending their names to wines is generally a formula for mediocrity, but that is not the case with Yao Ming.”

It’s actually a lovely wine. So we ordered a slice of Asian humble pie to go with.
