Here’s what you can always trust: Bob Dylan’s back catalog to still confound you; Umberto Eco’s books to be dense and delightful; children’s laughter at beaches; and the continued full expression and excellence of the Krug Grande Cuveé, now in its 166éme Edition.

As you may know, the House’s Grande Cuveé is produced every year regardless of climate and grape. This year’s expression (there’s no vintage) is a blend of 140 wines from 13 different years, the youngest of which dates back to 2010 and the oldest to 1998. Its final composition is 45% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 16% Meunier.

What is less known is Krug’s association with music. While most wines and champagne houses focus on pairings with food, cheeses, desserts, the brand has aligned itself with musicians and songs. Krug’s list of musical collaborators include Keziah Jones, Lianne La Havas, The Dø, Jacky Terrasson and many others. (More here).

During out tasting session at Jaan, Olivier Krug (above, 6th generation scion of the family) acted as DJ and demonstrated the way different songs affect one’s appreciation of the champagne. The effable showman and raconteur gave us his classical, dance and pop tunes. And if you close your eyes and give in to the notes, you’ll experience a different kind of harmony.
